Why Taper Pillow Corners?

Posted by Leana Pace on

Some of the pillow covers we make are done with tapered corners. So what does it mean?

It might seem like a geometric rule-breaker, but a pillow cover that is cut out with perfectly straight corners, does not look like a square pillow anymore when an insert is inside. Instead of crisp straight edges, the sides curve in toward the center and the corners are floppy introducing what’s called a “dog-eared corners” problem. That is why you see a slight curve at each corner of your pillow cover – it creates a better square!

The next picture shows what pillow covers look like when they don't have inserts inside and are laid flat on a floor:

As you can see tapered pillow covers with inserts inside look more like a square and don't have protruding corners.
